“A penny for your thoughts?” is a question that we have all asked or been asked at some point in our lives. The famous quote was first printed and popularised in England during the 15oo’s, so getting the original meaning of the quote would be difficult.
So while ” a penny for your thoughts” may be a simple expression or what you would ask someone who is being very quiet, Satan is taking it seriously. Billions is spent every year ensuring that he controls what we think and meditate on. He has a dedicated global media empire fully committed to influencing your every thought and decision. From the moment we are born, to the day we close our eyes for the final time, Satan will be hard at work trying to manipulate our thoughts.
Being a believer doesn’t exempt us from wrong or impure thoughts. A believer struggling with eating disorders will have their thoughts fixed on food, a man struggling with porn will be tortured trying to keep his thoughts pure, an alcoholic to remain sober, a smoker to give up cigarettes, a drug addict thinking of his next hit, etc.
In order to strengthen our thoughts, we need to meditate daily on the Bible, especially the books of wisdom – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Song of Songs. These reaffirm Gods truth into our lives and counter-act against the enemies lies and deceit. Renew your mind with God’s word.
Philippians 4 8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
An old English penny today would be worth a few pounds, probably enough to download an adult movie or buy a girlie magazine. The reality is more time, effort and thought is being put into manipulating your thoughts than you would ever have THOUGHT.
