Here is Andrew’s latest blog:
As Christians, we believe the Lord can perform any work in our life and that if we open our hearts to the Lord’s truth, change will happen. But do we truly believe this, or are some of us still using crutches to support our healing?
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
So what do I mean when I talk about a crutch? An example of a crutch is an e-cig. Often when a smoker can’t drum up the willpower to go cold turkey he will use an e-cig to ease the strain. This will drag out the healing process and rather than a cure it is a crutch. An e-cig may help in the healing process but the longer the user relies on this crutch, the more likely he will fail, resulting in repeated relapse.
Most Christians will try their utmost to overcome their addictions… so why do we fill the hole which porn leaves with other “lesser” forms of nudity. This is obviously not what God would want, God cannot stand sin – Psalm 5:4 For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
I myself had this same issue. I had to learn to look out for the crutches. I would watch a movie which I knew may contain sex scenes, but I wouldn’t have any safeguards in place and end up watching sex. My eyes would purposely catch glimpses of magazines, TV or street adverts to fill a little bit of the thrill I missed from porn.
Many of us will go on beach holidays or to other similar locations. This is just asking for nudity and sex to be pushed in our faces with topless women, sexual sin and very little clothing rampant in these places how can we not get sucked in?
I am not being a legalist, I understand you have to find your own safe level, but it’s simple – if you are feeling tempted at all, then do as Joseph did in Genesis 39 – literally run from danger! You do not need a crutch – you need only Jesus. We need to trust God fully in His healing power.
Mark 2:17 They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Just like the smoker must give up the e-cig to actually be healed from the addiction of smoking, so must we repent of, and flee from, all sexual sin so that God can bring us complete healing.
