Working in this ministry one question that keeps coming up is this. ” Why is God allowing the pornography industry to continue and flourish when so many marriages are being ruined because of it?” . This is a fair point, after all, pornography is now a contributing factor in many divorces. Not to mention the hurt and abuse that comes with it. So why does God seem to be sitting back and watching us struggle?
Probably the best answer I could find for this is to be found in Genesis 15 vs 16. In this passage of scripture, God’s grace is on full display. He gives the Canaanite nations 400 years to repent of their detestable religious practices or face His judgement. Repentance would have been made possible by the judgement of Sodom and Gomorrah. Which were close to Canaanite territory and the influence of godly men such as Abraham and Melchizedek who lived among them. But still, they gradually rejected what they knew about God and moved deeper into sin and perversion.
The Amorites were the greatest and most powerful of all the Canaanite nations. They were warrior like, numerous and widespread. But the Canaanites were the scourge of society. Moral depravity, social decay and sexual perversion was the order of the day. Just as the porn industry is to us today. God was, in fact, long-suffering and endured the idolatry and sins of the nation for four centuries, but there must come a culminating point. Sin simply cannot be allowed to go on forever. Moses understood the spiritual and religious rites of fornication associated with the Canaanites was nothing more than heathen worship to Satan. And the porn industry is a clever disguise and continuation of that practice today.
As God used the Israelite’s to bring his judgement to the Canaanites in the OT, Jesus Christ will bring God’s wrath against the church’s enemies in the latter days. The church is not God’s instrument of judgement towards the pornography industry, but his instrument of mission, evangelism and grace.
There’s no doubting for one moment that the pornography industry will finally come to an end. God has promised it to us JOEL 3 13 but it will not happen unless there is repentance or sin reaches it’s fullness marked out by God. So until whichever one occurs first. Turn your daily prayer asking God for His protection and strength to help you overcome the temptation of pornography. Keep your focus on Jesus, run the good race, prepare your soul for eternity and leave the judging to God.
God is still in control and he will do the judging. No matter how bad we all may think it is, this is a testing of our faith. To let God get on with and do what He has promised to do to in His time to the mocking idol of pornography.
Colossians 1 21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled. 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
